My old 98 that had 215k Miles on it the throttle body never once got that bad, it was never cleaned before I got it at 175k miles and I didnt clean it until about 185 and it looked much better than that still, and that truck was in the mud and wheeled and beat all to hell, but it was amazing, the internals on it for the most part all looked pretty good... I would have to assume that their is another problem there...

Well what im thinking now is that the pcv valve is messed up and fused shut, so im gonna check that out tomorrow, and probably replace it even if doesnt look bad. I'm thinking with all the junk not getting pushed out it dirtied it up real nice.

So It doesnt take an expert to know that the pcv valve was bad. Took it out and it was rattling around in my hand. I cant get a replacement till tomorrow morning though so I dont know if that was my idle issue or not. Heres to hoping!

Sounds like a good start, did it not throw a code?

I thought I read on here that the PCV should rattle if it's working properly? Is that incorrect?

There should be some tension in the spring, if its rattling alot then there is no tension so it would be bad

Well ive seen a lot of different pics and from what I can tell its not that uncommon for it to be that dirty, I changed my pcv valve which i think wasnt broken, I have no rough idle issues so I dont think that the egr is messed up either. Im stumped right about now. The only thing i can think of is I heard once that 04 and 05 trucks had an issue with stalling at idle with the ac on, and the dealer reflashed the pcm and raised the idle.

Well I just called 2 different dealers and both of em said the same thing. 500rpm when warm was normal and they never heard of a pcm flash for the 04 and 05s. I think this is a good excuse to get a tuner anyway, kill 2 birds ya know.
