Default Gear Swap ???????????

I Have an 02 Ram 1500 4x4, Im running 35 inch tires and a 4in suspension lift...I want to do a gear swap to a 4.10 or 4.56(Sounds like too much for daily driver to me). My question is am i correct in assuming i have to swap the gears in the front to match the rear? If so where can I find gear kits and what would be positive/negative effects of the swap? Ive been able to pull anything ive hooked up to but i just want to reduce tranny stress as well as add to the torque monster rating of the 5.9L I have.

Yes the front and rear gears must match. With 35's 4.10s would be better than stock (if you have 3.55s) but if your going to do it you might as well go with 4.56s, which will be better, especially if you pull with it. The only effects of the swap will be positive and will actually make your daily driver more enjoyable to drive.

I haven't done gears on this truck yet but I've bought a few sets from 4wheelparts in the past. Sometimes 4wheelparts.com has offers that if you buy gears and install kits then they cut you a deal on install if you live close to one. I'd say check them out or just start with google and find a good set at a good price. Normally a set for the front and rear with install kits will run you around 5 maybe 6 hundred. You can do a search on the Forum and see if you can dig up some old info to see where others have gotten theres or maybe someone will run across this thread and point you in the right direction. I'd just start searchin the web and spend a couple days looking for the right deal.

Number one, UNLESS you want to have to send the flat bed guy back for your transfer case that'd be laying on the road AFTER he winches your truck on the bed, you need to do both sets of gears.

Yes if you NEVER put it in 4WD you could get away with just the rears.

Secondly, it's hard to beat the deal Moe's has on both sets with the install kit...
