Default hemi questions...

considering an '03 std cab 2x4 hemi at and want opinions good or bad on them...

I hear there are limited tuning options for this year only, if true, who has them and what can be expected from them?

Fastman TB's... none for the 5.7? (checked his site) is there nothing that can be done to improve it?

headers... CARB approved shorties & y-pipe out there? true duals are out of the question... Kalifornia resident

After reading about 50 threads on mpg, most are either the 4.7 std cabs or qc 5.7's, did not find much on the std cab 5.7 mpg... anyone have info on it?

The 5.9 QC 4x4 is not going anywhere so this would be a 2nd truck and used primarily for commuting so I'd be looking to add the go fast goodies w/o killing the mileage...

yes, the 03s have limited tuning abilities. the ecm and tcm are separate. so transmission tuning features are not gonna happen.

fastman does make a throttle body for the hemi, its just not listed on his site. give him a call, or send an email, he will set you up. nice mod from what ive heard from other members about it.

yes there are shorty headers and y pipes availible. JBA, and BBK make shorties. im sure there are others as well. for Y pipe, you can get one custom fabbed, or buy the magnaflow Y and get that welded in.

Also, we see several guys come in here with broken valve springs that cause anything from rough idle or wont stay running to major head and block damage.

these guys may be able to handle the trans re-programing http://www.bgperformancepcm.com/#tcm not sure which trans is in there but they do seem to have a bunch listed.

Was there ever a recall on the valve spring problem or was that limited in numbers? I guess I'll have to dive into the programmer issue some more to see what is available. Glad to hear about the fastman TB though, when I did it to my 2000 5.9 gasser it was one of the best mods I did to it... until the rollers, modded intake... well you all know how it goes.

The thought of dropping an '03 305/555 CTD with a 6 speed in there down the road has crossed my mind, not sure how well the frame & front suspension would like that but I think it would offer a good compromise for performance & fuel economy. IIRC, that year motor has allot of go fast goodies and can also yield good mileage when needed... and can be made smog legal here in cali.

anyone know off the top of their head what the frame looks like on the 1500s? fully boxed front to back?

thanks for the feedback.
