Default New Tranny Pan Came In (Pic Heavy)

I ordered a PML cast deep tranny pan along with my tranny. The pan just got in yesterday. So of course, like a good member, I took plenty of pics for you guys. Let me tell you guys, this thing is SOLID! and pretty massive as well. when first holding it in your hands, you can definitely tell it is a quality piece. and, its such a thick piece of metal, its always cold to the touch. It came with all new stainless hardware (allen head with washers) and a magnetic drain plug (dont have to put a magnet in the pan now, it wouldnt stick to aluminum anyways) It is very similarly made to the transmission case (cast aluminum) so it should match up perfectly with it, material and construction wise.

oh yeah, its got baffles on the inside too. to direct fluid up to the sump filter. and also has a spot to drill in a hole for a temp sensor. im on the edge about doing that cuz i already have one in the test port in the trans body.

I am also planning on painting it. im undecided if i should go black, or red. but im gonna paint it, sand down the top of the fins to expose the aluminum and then clear coat it. so that it will look something like this.

and lastly, update on the sharadon tranny. i called them yesterday to get a tracking number. as they originally told me it would be shipping wednesday march 3rd. but it hadnt gone out yet, and will be shipping this monday

Is that the Deep or Deeper model, looks like a great upgrade, for $40 more you could have had it powder coated.

its just the deep model. i would have had to modify my exhaust to fit the deeper model. (bob over at moesperformance offered to send me the deeper at no additional cost, i turned it down though).

and yeah, ordinarily, i would have spent the extra 40 for powder coating, but i dropped over $2500 on a new tranny, then a new cooler, then filters and 20 something qts of fluid, so im pinching pennies where i can now.

well, the whole point of that pan is to cool the transmission better. heat is a transmission's worst enemy. this pan reduces heat by several different methods. first, its deeper so its able to hold more fluid. the more fluid you have, the more it cools the tranny. second, its a thick cast aluminum, not stamped sheet metal like the stock one. so that will help dissapate heat better. and the fins act like a heat sink and draw heat away from the tranny and get cooled by passing air flow.

Nice man, I think I'd paint it black although red would be pretyy interesting too. But then again how many times are you going to be showing off the underside of your truck?

good point truckin. but its the same reason i made the inside of my PC look awesome, cuz i know its there and it looks sweet.

im kinda leaning towards red more, just cuz you dont see it that often. and everyone does black.
