help wiring an autometer tach

I have an Autometer Tach in my 5.7 and I have tried their wiring diagram and MSD's. Neither seem to work. I sent the Tach back in and had it checked and made sure it works great.
Autometer's tach adapter did nothing... MSD has a GMR clip... does nothing... I am attaching to one of the coils. Any suggestions or diagrams I can try?
