Tow Haul Shifts
I've read about how the tow haul works, but have another question. It seems, at least on my truck, that the shifts are quicker/firmer when in tow haul mode. Is it safe to run the Stoplight 500 in Tow Haul, or will it damage the tranny? I've heard it's actually bettter for the tranny when the shifts are quicker (less slippage), but was looking for some opinions.
This has been discussed quite a bit on here. IMO there's nothing wrong with running in tow/haul mode. It just extends the shift points a bit. For example: it will hold the shift from 1-2, 2-3, etc. a little longer than normal and takes out overdrive. I wouldn't run in that mode on the highway though where you'll need that last gear.
Thanks for the info. I used it for coming down the mountain here from Sedona back to Phoenix, and never had to hit the brakes all the way down. Actually got the computer to register 19 mpg coming down that hill. It didn't last long after that, but I"m still at 17 MPG for now. Only difference is I put a tank of premium in it.
