Default What's a good price for replacing differential input seal? (2500ctd / dana80)

Have a small leak where the drive-shaft goes into the differential.
Truck is a 2006 ram 2500 5.9 ctd with a manual, so it should be the dana 80 (correct me otherwise!). 110,000 miles.

I've read up and its definitely something not worth screwing up. Whats a fair price for this job? And should I have them do anything else while its open? Bearings, etc..?

Thanks!

Bill

They do not need to open the rear diff to do that seal. The driveshaft must come down(few bolts) and that's it. I would say Labor should not be more than 2hours. The seal itself is just a few dollars. I'd have them service the rear diff dluid while you have it there as well so if anything does go wrong right away, they cannot blame you for not keeping up on mainenance.

The seal is called the pinion seal (inexpensive part). If it is leaking you definitely want to replace it. It is easy except you have to be very careful to seat the pinion nut back to the same torque as it was went it came off. There are several threads on here about how to do that. If you overtighten the nut, the crush sleeve will get messed up and your gears will whine and eventually go out ( I know from experience). The replacement is done through the front of the differential where the drive shaft bolts to the differential. You do not have to take the pumpkin off to change the seal but it might be a good time to change your fluid while you are down there. If it's been leaking for awhile, you will need to at least top it off after the repair. Search "Pinion Seal Replacement" on this forum to get more info if needed. Good luck.

I was typing while Dirtydog posted. He's way to fast. LOL

Ok thanks! This is my first RWD. Is there a writeup anywhere? Or good guide?
