Strange Vibration
Ok, so on my 08 Quad Cab 4X4, i've noticed that at certain speeds (mostly around 30-50 MPH) my truck vibrates, doesn't shake, but vibrates, its noticeable, with the rear view mirror being vibrated pretty crazy, however, when i hit the gas even a little bit, it goes away. My first thought was MDS, however i now know what MDS sounds like, and its not MDS. I personally think it could be the tranny, like maybe the torque converter. Has anybody else had these issues and know what could be going on? It doesn't seem to effect it at higher speeds, its only when driving around town at slower speeds. It almost seems like it does it when its in a certain gear, and then maybe when i hit the gas it shifts into another gear.
I had something like this happen to me it got worse and i finally found the problem. I still had the stock tires which were the Goodyear wrangler hp's and one of them had broken a belt on the inside and was causing vibration. at first it only did it around 50 to 55mph then it went to 30 to 70 in like a week and thats when i found it. i got a new set of tires and goodyear gave me money off the bad one because it was under warranty. i hope this helps and hope its nothing too serious.
I do have the stock Goodyears on mine, I'll take it into my local tire dealer and see if he can find a broken belt as you're describing. Its very possible that it could be this because my truck is a wreck-rebuild, and one of the tires was slightly damaged in the collision. The rim was screwed, but the rebuilder was able to get a new rim and just put the old tire back on. I don't really have the money for new tires though, we'll have to see what happens.
I have the same thing happening to me right now. I thought it was my tires so I took them in to the tire shop to get rebalanced (the tires are only 6mo old anyway). Cost me 75 bucks and the truck has the same shimmy it had before.
Alrighty thanks for the tips, i'm currently going to college 6 hours from home so I don't have a place to look at the truck, I'll check the u-joints, rear diff, and i'll take the tires to a local shop i trust back home. I can wait a month or two until i go home and can have my mechanic and I look at it and see what we can figure out. Its kinda hard to actually make the vibration happen, i'll try my best to pinpoint the RPM/Speed at which it happens and see what I can get off that.
i have a vibration while driving from 58-68 as soon as i reach 70 it goes away. my first thought was the stock tires so i changed them to bridgestone alenza i thought that was my fix, but it wasnt so i took it to the dealer for some other concerns i was having. well my service department finally contacted me after two days and said that my two frunt struts were no good and my driveshaft was missing a weight and out of round. so i went with it (two months later i get the call that parts are in) so i drop it off and they make the repairs i was like great the noise is gone in the front this is awesome. so i jumped on the parkway and got up to speed and i was soon dissappointed because my vibration was still there. so lets sum it up new driveshaft check, new tires check, balanced tires check check. vibration still there anyone have any suggestions???????
95% sure it's your Goodyears. Those HP"s are garbage! I have had two sets on my truck and 3 out of the 8 tires had broken belts and 2 tires could not be balanced correctly. Great odds!!! Anyway, switched to Cooper Discoverer's and I can't begin to explain the difference they made. 700$ bucks and I live in Canada so the price wasn't too bad either. Good luck
