Shocks: Skyjacker vs. Bilsteins
Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Skyjacker Nitro 8000 shocks. Are they any good? Are they just cheap shocks with Skyjackers name on them? I was gonna put on Bilsteins b/c I've heard alot of good things about them and they are listed for 1"-2.5" lift. But, the Skyjackers are about half the price. I plan on doing a 2"-2.5" level in the front and a 1.5" Add-A-Leaf in the rear before I put on my 35's. I checked the poll in FAQ's and only 1 person clicked on the Skyjacker option, and there wasn't anything mentioned in the thread about it. Any personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.
i replaced the stock steering stabalizer with dual nitros on my 96 ram ... no noticible difference . but didnt have them on my suspension.
if your really wanting a better ride i would go with bilstiens if you dont mine dropping the $$. otherwise i think all the nitro shocks are about the same

I don't have any experience with the Rough Country's, but I've been more than one truck with Skyjacker shocks, not impressed. It was told to me by a guy in the auto parts business a few years ago that the Skyjackers are contracted by low bid, usually made in China or Malaysia, and I can believe it. As of about 4 or 5 years ago, I thought they were a terrible shock, not a big fan of the Pro Comps either...
I just put on skyjacker nitro shocks on my front end this past weekend. After I cranked my torsion bars to fit bigger tires,it caused me to top-out when I hit speed bumps. So after the research, Skyjacker's were the only shocks I could find that come with an add'l inch of play. So far, I'm not too happy with the ride. It is indeed much stiffer. I think I'm going to fabricate some bushings and put my original shocks back on.
If you're looking for replacement shocks for your factory setup, I've heard good things about Bilstein and Edelbrock....
