hey all new to df but been lurking and some post on 2nd gen forum.

however i am lookin at a used/new to me bighorn and am curios about engines.4.7 or 5.7 which one. longevvity,economy(i know there trucks)fewest problems.

said truck would be the wifes but i would use it on weekends and prolly tow a travel trailer maybe four or five times a year.

somebody correct me if i am wrong here, but the hemis get about as good of gas mileage as the 4.7, with the extra power to boot. as far as common problems with either. not too many, ive heard of a couple guys with 4.7s and blown head gaskets. and a couple 03 hemis with broken valve springs. im sure if you keep up on routine maintenance you would avoid those things though

john your correct close to the same mpg's so idd go for the hemi ...better resale on them anyway.
as far as the 4.7 i dont own one but they have came along way in the aftermarket products to offer just as much as a hemi

MPG's are about the same with both the 4.7 and 5.7. Reliability seems about the same too with both engines. If I was you, I would go for the 5.7 just for the extra power that you get while spending the same on gas.

x2 teacher, and also pulling the travel trailer you will want the extra horses.
