Default 4x4 Problem...

I have a 07 Ram 1500, it has the 2wd, auto, 4h, 4lo ****. The problem is if i turn it to 2wd, on the dash it says I'm in 4x4. If I turn it to auto, the dash reads auto, and reads 4x4 when the **** is turned to 4x4. But no matter where the **** is turned to, 2wd, auto or 4x4, I only have 2wd.
Has anybody had this problem, or know what the problem could be?
Thanks

Is it flashing or solid 4x4? Likely the computer saying "Hey, there's a problem" (especially since you don't actually get 4x4).

Check the obvious like making sure the wiring harness to the t-case is intact and that fuses are good.

Sounds like the electric actuator isn't actuating. The actuator takes the place of the shifter on a manual transfer case and puts the transfer case into the range you select. The actuator could also be where the truck gets the info on what range is selected. These went bad on GM trucks in recent memory (Wife has one in the driveway). Don't know if that is actually your problem but it's a place to start looking.
