Default driveshaft question

My buddy is trying to give me his aluminum drive shaft from his 01 reg cab long bed 2wd 1500. It is a brand new drive shaft. Was never installed. Will it work on my truck?

01 may have had a different tranny then you, so the length from tailshaft to the rear end could be different...

I THINK that your wheelbase would be the same- but i'm not 100% sure on that one.

Maybe put up a post in the 2nd gen forum and see what those guys have to say... I'm sure they would know.

I wouldnt want an aluminum driveshaft anyway. Dodge put Steel driveshafts on the 4x4 for a reason. As for fitment, the only way it'll fit is if he had the 45rfe tranny. Dodge took the 45rfe and added a 5th speed (or second overdrive) to make it the 545rfe in our trucks. pretty sure its the same hull though, just different internals

do you have 2wd or 4wd? cuz if its a shaft from a 2wd and you have 4, theres no way itll fit at all. even if you do have a 2wd, he most likely has the 46re, thats what they used behind the 5.9 and 5.2 back then. its a completely different tranny all together. not the same size as our 545's.
