a lot of you guys are giving the OP info for a 1500, he has a 2500. its a totally different truck. and different maintenance. jayjma here is a great DIY write up on the diff fluid change. its on a 2500.

https://dodgeforum.com/forum/3rd-gen...-tutorial.html

you wont need RTV, no friction modifier. and you will need roughly 3qts 75w-90. torque specs for the bolts are 30ft/lbs for the cover bolts, and 24 for the fill plug. i suggest taking one of the cover bolts out of the top of the diff and bringing it into NAPA or lowes and getting all new SS grade 8 bolts. the factory ones are very soft, and the head can shear off very easily.

I would not torque your cover bolts to 30 ft pounds as stated in that DIY. If you use the stock bolts and that torque spec you will break the head of the bolt off.

*I know this from experience*

So does this sound right for the 07 2500 hemi?

Front diff-75w-90, (4.02 l)
Rear diff-75w-90, (3.31 l)

1500 Rams rear diffs need the friction stuff, 2500 axles do not.
if your still under warenty, dodge wants you to change transfer case, front and rear diffs every 50,000 km, ( owners manual )

ok so an update got the fluid drained everything looked good. cleaned it all up, buttoned it up and filled 3.3l but think i may be over full. not to the point that the fluid came out the fill hole but i'm pretty sure i am over full.

so now the question is how to get the little bit of excess out? i don't want to remove all the bolts and drain that way. if i have to as a last resort then so be it. i'm hoping i can just suck some of the excess out with a suction gun? hoping any input would be fantastic.

other wise job was really easy and went well. even got my brake controller installed this weekend

Yep, get a suction gun. They're cheap enough and you will get the correct level easily with that.
