Default to rebuild or not rebuild?

just pushing 107k miles and the trannny popped into limp mode yesterday as I was getting onto freeway. found that out after I researched the 2 codes it threw and 5 mil codes. basically fml cause I'm broke and can't dish out the repair costs but what is gonna be the best way to go? any way the internals can be replaced as a diy or is it gonna have to visit a shop for a rebuild/replace? from what I've seen its gonna be in the range of 1500 to 2500?

If you get into the 2k range you might as well get a sharadon like ODJ did, that thing will outlast the motor I'm sure.

Rebuilding an auto isn't hard, but it sure isn't easy. Cleanliness is the most important thing. Also condition the clutches before putting them in. I rebuilt the tranny on my 96 grand cherokee, 42RE, and I got 10K out of it. If you do rebuild it be sure to break it in properly. Also I recommend trying to get ahold of a FSM. That will make it much easier.
Not sure where I messed up, sold it because I was tired of fixing everything on it.

Edit:
Price someone to rebuild it. See how much that is, plus you should have a warranty if it fails.

cool thanks. I found a few remanufactured for 1500 with 400 dollar deposit and base warranty for a year. but the sites state its in fact a 545rfe but says they're 4 speeds not 5 speeds. weird?
