Default Ram 1500 questions....

Hey, so I was wondering, how many lugs on a 1500 wheel, and also how many leaf springs are on a 1500?

The reason I ask is, I just got my magnaflow exhaust installed today, and while they had it on the lift, I had 3 mechanics tell me that I have a 2500, not a 1500. They said that everything is huge and heavy duty from the transfer case, the drive line is huge, the differential is like twice the size of the 1500's and there are 5 springs in the suspension whereas a 1500 has 3. I also have 8 lugs and they said that a 1500 should only have 5. Pretty cool if it is lol. but I am just wondering. I have a 2008 mega cab hemi. They basically said that they deal with a lot of trucks and if mine is a 1500, then its the heaviest 1500 they have ever seen lol.

That's because the MEGA CABs are built on a 2500 chassis. So essesntiallly, you do have a 2500 series truck. Not exactly sure why Chrysler labeled them as a 1500 except to confuse people???

So, it is labeled as a 1500, but in reality it is not. It's a 2500 series truck.

you're actually worse off towing than some 1500's. 7800 lbs is your limit if i can recall. the mega is so heavy it needs the 2500 chassis, but doesnt have ALL components of the 2500 chassis.

The 1500 Mega Cab sits on a standard 2500 Quad Cab Longbed frame. The 2500 Mega Cab is an HD and has a beefier frame, extra leaf spring, and stiffer front springs. The tow capacity is less as AF mentioned due the the excessive weight of the truck.
