when I traded my chrome rims for the alums we were removing lugs and turns out my key fit his...might check around with some guys with the 20s/locks and see if any of them fit
I havent had any trouble getting mine off with the key
youve got to be kidding me. idk if it was an option or the previous owner was just paranoid but the stock 20's have wheel lock nuts on them!!! found the key in the glove box but the damn thing sucks! cant get them off! and i dont want to drive a socket around them cuz i dont have any extra lugs right now. what the hell should i do? im so close to plasti-dipping my wheels but this has to happen!?
Compared to the wheel locks that were on my '66 Mustang, these are genius. It's a socket that fits over the locking lug, and then you can use a normal socket or tire iron. Not a bad design, IMO, for a locking lug nut. Yes, they are more of a pain that a normal lug nut.
I took them off my Mustang because they were horrible to try and loosen. The set on the Ram seem easy enough, but it may just be in comparison to other crappier sets.
hey now!,It may seem stupid to you to have locking nuts on your rims. But to some of us it's a necessity.Around here they don't steal the wheels for the rims,They steal them for the tires. Then they recycle the rims at the scrap metal yard for like $8 a peice.I actually bought a set of factory ones just for this reason.
you can thank us michigan folk for that option the top stolen dodge rams and the rims get stolen allllll the time up here that why it cost me almsot 150 a month for plpd and a clean record. lol
If there is much play in the key, you will more than likely need to pound a 12-point socket over them and use an impact wrech to get them off. The stock locks are worthless as far as quality. They are known to wear out if the key is not in exactly right and will actually split on the edges so that you can never get they key in right. My tire place torqued mine on too tight and split the edges of the metal on the locks. Needless to say I found that out at a time when I needed to get the wheels off fast for repair work.
Sometimes you can put aluminum foil in between the key and the lug and kind of pound it on there good, the foil will help fill in the voids of a sloppy key to lug fit.
