Default Replaced EGR - Do I have to wait on emissions test per the dealer?

One thing I notice on the customer printout from the service department regarding the installed EGR valve... it said "REPLACED EGR VALVE, ERASED CODE AND ROAD TESTED OK. IT WILL TAKE A FEW DAYS BEFORE THE TRUCK CAN GO HAVE IT'S EMMISIONS CHECKED." What gives with that??? My tabs expired April 30 so I had hoped to take it back through emissions on Monday. Do I really have to wait a few days?

I would take it tomorrow anyways. I'd be surprised if you failed, but if you do, you should ask the tech why you failed and see what his input would be. Only thing I can think of is the PCM needs to learn and adjust to the new EGR but I can't see that being drastic enough for you to fail emissions. Plus your first retest is free so it's worth a shot. Better than getting pulled over for expired tags.

I'm thinking this guy who told you this is allowing time for your truck to "relearn " itself. imo.

The PCM stores data that the emissions equipment read. In NJ, the equipment is calibrated so that it requires a 100 mile minium log. What the "state" is trying to avoid is those who would clear the codes just before the inspection hoping that the CEL and associated codes do not reappear before the completion of the inspection. Drive it a few days before you bring in in or you will be returning. If your inspection is over due, just carry the receipt with the truck.

I hope your not in California. If you fail the first test you automatically become classified as a "gross Pollouter".Which means that the next time you have to go get it tested,You'll have to go to an "emmisions only" testing place. In that case you'd better bring some K Y with you
