After painting the taillights with VHT, what is the best thing to use to polish the lights....

 

meguiars polishing or rubbing compound

 

and should i use an oribital buffer or do it by hand?

 

I'd throw a coat of clear on it first, then wet sand, polish and buff the clear.

 

there is clear on there, 2-3 coats each light, but its satin right now and i was looking for a glossier look to it, i was just wondering whats better to use.... a orbital buffer or go at it by hand.

 

i used some buffing compound and a variable speed buffer we had at work. it really made them blend in to my black paint. Im sure any polish or compound will work just as good as any other brand polish.

 

mine made mine look even duller...I dunno

 

Sounds to me you haven't wet sanded the clear to get it smooth. The 'light' coats may not be thick enough for you to sand off?
I used 2000grit wrapped in a dish sponge. Dipped it in a bucket of soapy water and sanded away. Then you really need to use a variable speed buffer but burning the clear off is always a danger. orbital buffers will take forever and I'd rather see it done by had for the main part. You want to get a liquid rubbing compound that has mild abrasives in it. If you use normal wax, you will never get them clear.

 

I just noticed in your sig you have the Recon LED taillights. Are these the ones you are spraying? If they are, when you get the VHT polished up post some pics of them. i have been wanting a set ever since they came out and have been curious what they look like with some vht on them.
