Default MDS question

Sorry if this has been gone over before.. i couldnt find much searching.
i see a lot folk askings about disabling the MDS on their trucks.
I dont know a whole lot about it, but i know what it does and i know all the dealers i spoke to praised it like it was the best thing to ever happen to these trucks...
Mine has it... judging by the change in sound through the dual exhaust on the highway, i think i have a general idea of when its kicking on. *i think*

what are the pros and cons to disabling it.

thanks.

I kind of like the gas mialege that I get with mine and I don't notice any change of coarse it is really flat here and you wouldn't notice it when towing anything or hauling anything bcause you would put it in the tow haul mode so I don't see what the problem is.

And how much MPG you gain/lose with MDS is debatable. Some people even say that they have seen MPG improvements by disabling it.

I don't have a programmer, so I haven't disabled mine. I did add the LED to see when it's on/off, and it's on for the majority of my driving. I still get 12-13 MPG, so I doubt it's buying me a whole lot.

I've def heard of more examples of people gaining mpg's by ditching it. I think it was a marketing ploy. Its a great idea, but not practical with a 5000 lb+ truck. It works well with V8 cars, cause they can run efficiently on 4 cylindars. Theres no way even cruising this thing is efficient on 4 cyl. Those 4 cylindars just have to work extra hard to move the truck

I think that it also has a lot to do with the terreign if you live in rolling hills or hills or even mts then you are deff going to do worse were as here I have to drive for three hours just to get to any hills let alone any mts.

I 2nd that motion, although the gain in MPG's was NOT soley from disabling the mds, but rather the actual TUNE that was installed along with the raised shift points. Chrysler makes the trans in these trucks impractical and thus the reason they can provide the Liftime Powertrain warranty. They shift the tranny way too low of rpms and dont allow it to down shift until your on the throtle more than 60% which eats gas.

I did loose 1-2mpg on the highway with mds disabled with factory tune, THEN loading in a 91oct Diablo tune my mpg's went back up 1-2mpg on the highway and 2 solid mpg's in the city, so city def improved but highway stayed the same in the end.
Raising the shift points (not talking about WOT, just normal shift points) increase my mpg's even more in the city, but highway stayed the same obviously.
MDS sucks IMO. Even on flat ground on the highway, the only way it won't keep kicking in/out of mds is if you have a tailwind. Otherwise, 4cyl is NOT enough to keep a heavy 5300lb dry weight truck moving through the air. it would always slow down, kick out of mds to speed up, kick into mds and then slow back down...revolving cylce.. Got annoying that i couldnt even keep up to speed.
