Default Tuner help

Ok im in the market for a tuner, i thought i had a 3865 lined up but dude sold it before i got the money to him. was out there lookin and couldnt find one in the same ballpark(price wise). so i googled dodge ram 4.7 tuner and the only other one that came up was 3815. i have basic mods, cai, exh, efan, 4.56s, ypipe stuff like that. on some 3865 sites it says adjustable for bigger tires, and REAR END GEAR CHANGES. Now what exactly do you adjust for gears? Am i really missing out on something big without havin a tuner while having gears? is there a big difference between the two? i wanted it basically to fix the speedo, but the other things were just bonuses until i read that about the gears. apologize if this has been covered and i failed to see it as i filed through the archives. yes down the road i will prolly need some custom tunes as i plan on doin heads and ho cam but biggest issue right now is speedo. thanks for the input and if you have one for sale LMK

do NOT get the 3815. You definitely want the 3865. It has all the new tranny support that the 3815 doesnt support.

edit: if you'll be lookin down the road for a custom tune, you should look to DSP or SCT. Superchips doesnt support custom tuning. The DSP has pretty good trans support for 05 (not quite as good as the new 3865 stuff, but still good). SCT doesnt offer trans control. You could also think about doing a DSP/SC or SCT/SC stack when you get to that point. There are adv and disadv to that also

It will correct the speedometer and the tune itself will give you some power. There is no hiden power for gears in a tuner, you are reaping the benfits already.

There are other things you will want the tuner for anyways, but as far as the SC goes, it's only time before they release the trans support for the 4.7l's and even if not,the 3865t will be worth it's weight come time to sell as it supports a wider range of vehicles. If you can pick up a 3815 that is unlocked cheap it might be worth it but you'll be upgrading in no time if the tcm support is released for your engine. I just picked up a Cortex myself and it's sweet. The new trans features for the 5.7's are awesome.

the reason they list the rear end gear thing is because on other vehicles the speedo sensor gets its info from the ring gear. our rams arent like that, so nothing to change computer wise when you change the gears. its just listed for other vehicles.

and yeah, dont waste your time on a 3815, get a 3865. the 4.7 trans features will be out soon.

Spend the extra cash and get a 3865 or 3950. Don't waste your money on the 3815, it is old technology that won't support the new trans features.

hmmm 3950, i havent seen that one yet. but there will soon be trans control on the 3865? that was another big issue i didnt list. im so sick of the truck shiftin into od at 45mph cause some dillhole doesnt know how to use an on ramp.

SN, if airram happens across this thread i would like to know what tuner you use, i plan on spending the other half of my bonus on parts from you

I contacted superchips and asked what the difference was between 3815 and 3865. They ran my superchip ID # and told me to update it. I did and I have all the trans features.

Superchips would not tell me what the difference between them. Could someone elaborate for me?

all the trans tuning. 3815 doesnt really have hardly any trans functions at all. 3865 has more than you could dream of.

no you dont... changing wot shifts is not what were talking about.

the 3815 is big and bulky, no memory, and outdated
