For the benefit of anyone else who doesn't know better. Towing with modified hooks like these is STUPID. Period. Don't just say "meh" and go on your merry ignorant way. That's about as smart as saying "meh", I drive drunk all the time.

They said his wife and 3 year old daughter were sitting on the bank watching! Something as simple as throwing an old coat over the strap would have saved his life.
Towing, winching and hauling can be VERY dangerous if you don't take EVERY possible precaution or try to use anything that is compromised!!!
alright let me tell you what my profession is.....Recovery is actually my job with the canadian military, and i deal with weigths from anywhere from 1500 lbs- 90 000 lbs. with winches and straps rated for all weights in between that!. Obviously that guy was doing something wrong, like was he "shocking" or was his strap frayed? or even was there stress cracks in his hooks? or was he one of these "back wood off road enthesiasts" that had welded the hook to the frame? . Theres alot of factors that play with recovery and recovery parts.
Yes maybe i shouldnt of used "meh" as loosely i did, but with the small weights of the truck, and if you have the rated equipment, especially with a body lift.. and you have the correct bolts for your bumper. IF the hooks are going to fail they will fail with signs! and if you know how to look for theses signs you will be safe.

You were actually right I do have the factory tow hooks, but they are attached to the bumper which is affected by the bodylift. May consider selling!

And Hammer, where should I mount these hooks? I bought 4 hooks today but the bolts are pretty short that were supplied. Should I just mount them as far back/forward as I can? And will they have to be mounted on the bottom of the frame tubing or should I put it on the side?
