SWEET!!! I used to always have a "beater" 4x4 for such purposes. Sometimes along with a newer truck or sometimes along with an SUV.
Right now I don't have the heart to "beat up" my truck like that, I made the mistake of sinking too much $$$ in it and my Grand Cherokee is my daily driver even though it's also a lifted 4x4! I go all over with them both, huntin', fishin' and campin', but tend to take it easy anymore.
So I guess my ATV is now my "beater", LOL!!!

As far as the surface scratches go, I picked up a kit made by turtle wax with a wax/polish and a small battery powered buffer at Sam's Club one day for $8 and change. One of those "As seen on TV" deals that used to be advertised like crazy on late night TV for $19.95. As long as you the scratch ain't down to bear metal, it takes it right out!

Yeah Hoss, any of the commercial "scratch remover" gels at the auto parts store will work (and take the scratches and yellowing out of your headlights too), but I've found you want to buff it in. I suppose a full size buffer would be ok, but this little cheapy, AA Mag-Lite size one does well, as you can kinda turn it on it's edge to get the goop really down into the thinnest of scratches. I'll go out in the garage in a few and take a pic of the thing and update this post...

a porter cable is you best friend in these cases cuz it will work out those scratches with harsher compounds without causing further damage/swirls in your paint. its ALMOST impossible to mess up with a porter cable and it'll save ur elbow a lot of agony

I've removed quite a few scratches from my cars, my friend's cars and more than a couple rental cars I took off road with Meguiars scratchX 2.0, a microfiber cloth and some elbow grease. Couple things though: a buffer would've been easier, make sure you wax it afterwards and when Meguiars website says for best results use the product "Passionately" they really mean scrub the S--T out of it.

Elbow grease always works! I went mudding the other day and after i washed her off there were def. marks from some of the trees running from the front to the back. It gave me a reason to wax and polish the thing and afterwards it looked good as new!

Nice, I had my truck covered in mud last weekend also gettin in and out of a field to see some bands play that many people were gettin stuck on foot. There were a couple stuck super dutys and 4 stuck Z71s but my truck pulled through. Sorry no pics. Here's a pick of my mud toy though.
