Hardest Repair Job Ever
My 2500 QCLB has 71,000. The rear univrsal had no needle bearings left in it and the center bearing had a good bit of slop due to the rubber deteriorating. I decided to rebuild the whole rear drive shaft. Funds were scarce so I took on the job myself. Boy was that a mistake! The job took me 2 days. The whole system was extremely rusty and I have no special tools so I had to use sockets and a mini sledge. I came up with some pvc fittings and tubing to pound on the new center bearing. I have rebuilt engines and done just about every repair you can think of but this was by far the worst job ever. I only spent $165 on the parts but 2 days of my time and sweat sure wasn't worth the labor saved if I would have used my local driveline service. So if you need driveline work think about this before deciding to do it yourself.
