Have you thought about just changing the gearing?

I just got the Superchips programmer for my 02 Quad Cab 4x4 5.9 .... on 'performance' setting, it's made a significant improvement...

I posted on here a while back about a group buy with some of the guys over at DodgeTalk.com .. I got it for 311 delivered... not bad, eh?

Have you checked your 0-60 times?

My 02 QC 4x4 5.9L takes about 10.5s - which is brutal.

I have heard that 8.3-8.5s is possible with the performance setting.

Thanks!

Dave

To get 6K pounds of twisted steel and sex appeal to 60mph in around 9-10s really isn't that bad. Not as fast as most would want, but not bad, especiallywhen you consider a 2wd SC Hemi only does it about 2s faster and has 345HP and weights about 1K pounds less.

Speed costs money....how fast do you want to spend?

Seriously though, stay away from the Ebay crap. If you wanted some extra ponies go with a reputable programmer, e.g. Hypertech, Superchips, etc. They alter the timing and fuel curves among others to get more power. They also double as a OBD-II scanner. The TB spacers, tornado, Ebay junk and stuff like that is junk on an EFI modern motor. The most common mods for the LA engines are Intake mods such as a cold air intake and modified throttle body, exhaust mods including high flow cats and exhaust. Then there are computer upgrades as mentioned. There is also gearing, superchargers, NOS, etc. If you want to go into the engine there are cams and what not. These mods are safe if done correctly. To answer your specific question...Yes, a reputable programmer is safe, but I don't trust Ebay home made crap and you do risk messing up your engine with these homemade contraptions. You can try it, but I personally wouldn't do it.

I have no problem shelling out the extra bucks to get the superchips programmer, or is the hypertech the way to go? Also, I know the ebay stuff is risky, and I will stay away, but what about a used superchips programmer? seems like I can pick one up for about 250.00 if i'm lucky... what do you think?

From my understanding, they have to make thier (the sellers) truck go back to stock and if you get it and they didn't do that it will be a no go. This keeps someone from getting a programmer and programming all of his buddies trucks with it for free. I would ask the seller why he is getting rid of it and make sure it isn't a scam.

I recall the Hemi reg cabs do 0-60 in about 6.9s. QC 4x4 - around 8.5s.

If I can get my 5.9L with 20's to the mid 8s catagory - I'll be happy.

The Hemi's as implemented in the trucks seems to lose about 25%. I am losing around 15%...
