Default help! cai diy question

does it make a diff if i simply add a k&n cai filter to the hose that goes to the stock box and leave the cover off so that the filter sits inside the stock box rather than remove the whole stock setup and use pvc all the way to the tb?

does the huge black "hat" affect the air flow when using the k&n cone filter?

its just a 90, with a 3-4" coupler and then plumb it down behind the headlight... Works great. sounds awesome.
its a 6x10" K&N

for the sensor.. all you have to do is drill a hole.. i forget the size, but just match it up with the sensor diameter.

I usually just buy a small package of rubber grommets, a size the O2 fits in snugly and then drill a hole that again, the grommet fits in snugly. A pack of 5 of them is all of about $1.99 at Lowes...

Well Ive had it both ways with the pvc to the TB and now I have it setup with the CAI filter hooked up to the air hose thats connected to the hemi hat and I prefer it that way. I have looked and examined the hemi hat and cannot see how people say that its so restrictive, I mean there is a clear air path to the TB, all it does is quiet the noise at the TB which I like.
AllI did was turn the air hose a little to angle it towards the front of the truck and then added about a 1 ft piece of 3" pvc(ABS) and put my filter on that and it works like a charm.

I have the homebrew myself also. I believe that air box is restrictive because it isn't a direct line of air into the tb. The throttle body is pulling air out of a box where the air has no direct movement. It just swirls around in there. When you have a cai it goes directly from filter to tb without having to roll around in a box.
Here's some pics of how we did mine.

direct air flow to the tb

K&N filter setup inside the bottom part of the factory filter box to shield it from water, etc.
