Default Reverse Lights go out

When I put my truck (06 Ram 1500 Laramie) into reverse, the reverse lights will come on for a second, then go out, and stay out for the duration that I'm in reverse. If I take it out of reverse, then put it back in, the lights will go on and off again. Any suggestions?

I dont have my manuals on me today at work but I will look once I get home today. However, I would assume it would either be in the steering column by the shifter or at the transmission

I've finally gotten around to dealing with this, but have yet to fix it.

It will flash 3 or 4 times when you first put it in reverse, then once every time after you put in in, per off/on key cycle.

From what I've learnt, the reverse switch is inside the tranny. I tried wiggling the connector (of what I think goes to that switch), but it didn't cause them to flicker or come on.

Has anyone dealt with this before? I guess now is as good time as ever to change the tranny fluid, if i have to drop the pan anyways.

I think I've solved my problem...for the thread's sake I'll post what info I found about the reverse system on this truck.

The previous owner had a cap or something over the box, so there was an additional wiring harness, that included an extra reverse wire. So that harness was tapped into the reverse lights, at the drivers side plug. One end of the wiring harness must have been rubbing the frame, so I think the TIPM was cutting the power.

Anyways, here's some info about the wiring:

The switch is apparently on the rear of the transmission, and has a wht/gry (or wht/lt grn) wiring running to the TIPM (pin 8 plug C7). From the TIPM there is a wht/lt grn in pin 11, plug C8, which runs the reverse circuit. From there it goes to the auto-dim rearview same wire, pin 3, c1. Same wire heads to the 2 backup lamps. Each lamp has its own ground.

Hope this can help someone else.
