Leveling and programming for oversize tires
Hello all.
Complete newbie...just got my '05 1500 5.7 4x4 Saturday. Shes white with a regular cab and short bed.
Ive read the tire and lift/suspension stickies...wow, what a lot of info...what a great resource this place is going to be!
Anyway, I couldn't find a direct answer so here I go...
Ive read a bunch of stuff about "leveling". I presume this means lifting the front to match the rear height? If so, how is this accomplished? Can I adjust my torsion bars, or do I have to get something aftermarket?
Second, I noticed the speedo was off. I checked the tires size and they are 265/70R17. The door sticker says 245/70R17 so I presume that accounts for the error. I believe I will have to tell the CPU the new size? And if correct, whats the cheapest way to go...I'm not interested in messing with anything else...just calibrating the speedo.
Thanks!

As far as leveling goes, yes you can just crank the torsion bars. Some good basics:

Dealer would be cheapest way to go for speedo recalibration. Hooks up the StarScan tool, 10 minutes. Rates charged can be anywhere from free to $100.
But I'd suggest getting a tuner such as a Superchips or Diablo. MANY other benefits besides speedo recalibration...

+1........... if you're gonna hang around these parts, better get some pics up QUICK!!
You can go ahead and plan on spending a bill at the stealership. I would check around your local garages and see if they have the Starscan computer. The stealership was gonna charge me $85+ to 'turn on' my foglights. Got'er done for $20 (IIRC) from a local guy.
Add a couple hundred to that first hundred you'd spend at the 'ship, and get you a tuner, as Hammer said. A couple mpg gain is possible, plus many other features you would possibly use
