Default Front breaks

So you got to love buying a used truck and finding little half *** alterations the previous owner did to sell the truck. Yesterday i took my truck in for its brakes, and estimated around $400 since the squeeler on the right front tire just started to make noise, and that is with the disc needing to be replaced.

After sitting in the pub for an hour, i finally got a call from the shop. Two seconds later my $400 estimation was blowen away by the $1200 shop quote.

The previous owner decided it was a good idea to alter the squeelers so they did not make noise when the pads were low, and also never replaced the discs, just the pads. So after a nice long camping trip, guess who is out over a grand?

But that isnt the only issue, i now have to replace the tie rod ends, and the brake lines. The tie rod ends wont be a issue, but apparently the only brake lines sold for my 06 5.7L 1500 are sold by the dealership and are freaken expencive!

Has anyone found brake lines that are not sold by dodge for a reasonable price?

*sigh* Shoot me now!

Yes, they are replacing the discs, pads, and brake lines on both front tires, and caliper on the right and that came out too around $800 is parts, and then shop times at nearly $100/hr plus taxes.
Well just got a call and the price has gone down a little, it will be around $1000 now since I will be doing the brake lines and the tie rod ends myself.

I was going to do the brakes myself, but i need my truck for work and need it fast. I am still quite new to working on vehicles and am slowly starting to figgure things out. If i had a weekend to work on it, i would totaly give it a shot.

Yeah you really need to learn to do them yourself. My brakes pads for the front and rear were $60 each and that was with a lifetime warranty also. New hardware (what you call squealers) come with them. Rotors might cost another 200-300 for a full set of four if you need them. Thats FAR LESS than 1200

You could do your brakes one day after work or over a weekend. It is only a few hours for someone who is used to doing them and for someone like me, make 2 hours for front and back.

Absolutely get under there and do 'em yourself-it really is pretty easy, you'll be surprised. The first once always takes the longest, but after you've figured out what you're doing it goes pretty quick. A little confidence goes a long way-

you know, this is kind of off topic lol, but I kinda wish my name was rob, so that if I ever did anything to anyone I could say, "you got robbed" lol. kinda weird I know... and totally off topic.'

But yeah, on topic, 1200 for brakes is ridiculous, I am getting my upper ball joint, my steering rack, inner and outer tierods, a power steering pressure hose, and adjustable camber pieces for my control arms for alignment all bought and installed for like 1200... I would have done it all myself, but I needed it done fast so I decided to let the shop do it, and I like and trust the guys that are doing it, I dont mind giving them the business.
