Default Quick review on 3" Rough Country suspension lift

I was putting this lift on my 2005 1500 Quad Cab 2wd w/ Hemi. The kit comes with 2" inch coils (don't know why they're not 3". and only found this out after looking at the invoice), 1.5" rear lift blocks w/ U-bolts, and shocks for all four corners.

I measured the truck before I ordered, so I already knew that I may not be installing the 1.5" rear lift blocks since the front of my truck is 3" lower than the rear. The front coils went on fine, but I was sent the wrong shocks for the front, so I'm waiting on a response from Rough Country. After installation I measured again and, sure enough, I only got 2" of lift from a 3" kit. I'm particulary concerned because I know that coils will settle over time and I'm hoping this doesn't turn into a 1.5" lift. I'm not too confident, but I don't think the addition of the Rough Country shocks will add the inch I'm lacking.

So in summary, if I was to do it again, I would have just bought some leveling spacers..... I = fail .

It's a geometry thing. You don't need a 3" longer coil to get 3" of lift. This pic is for a spacer, but the geometry is the same.

I do remember reading that about a leveling kit and I understand that it still applies to coils. And it all definitely makes sense. But I actually only got 2" of lift. I put the lift coils next to my stock coils and couldn't see 2" of difference, so I can only assume they are using a combination of a slight increase in length, and I higher spring rate to achieve the lift....

They're definately changing the spring rate to achieve some of the lift. Was there a part number on the coils (sticker maybe)? It sounds like you just got the wrong kit.

I think so too. I got the 2" lift coils for mine from rc and they were just shy of 2' like you pointed out. Sounds like they sent you the wrong thing. Compare part numbers like rubber said from the website and the box/receipt.

I got the right coils. I was told that there were 22 different coils offered for 2002-2005 Rams based on package options. That's why they said I netted 2" of lift. And he's sending me the correct shocks and just letting me keep the wrong ones. He was also super cool about me sending back the unused U-bolts, lift blocks, and shocks for the rear. All-in-all good service. I just wish they had the 6" lift that I originally ordered in stock.

i just bought that lift too, says u need 4.5 inch backspacing but the stock rims have 5 i think. Did your lift fit on it stock or did u space your wheels?

I had a 3" lift from Rough Country that I put in my 2001 1500. The paperwork stated that although the spacers were only 2" the shocks would give me the extra 1" lift and it did. My original shocks would stay where you pushed them. The new ones would extend themselves. After putting them in the truck they actually lift up on the truck another 1". I didn't think it was gonna work but it did.
