Default Tranny Cooler ?

Hey everyone. Getting ready to install my new tranny cooler, and after reading a few threads some people are saying you don't to have to your tranny to cold. So what do I do? Remove the old tranny cooler and install new? Or run both coolers? I picked up a tranny cooler from Summit Series 7000 transcooler. Its rated for 18,000

I haven't iunstalled one on my truck, but there's a bunch of radiators already and I don't think you have enough room to run both??
As for cooling, remember, the truck weighs in around 5klbs and can tow up to around 9klbs. That's 14klbs of cooling needed. Figure aftermarket companies stretch the truth a little and take it as that. So, that cooler should be fine and be better than stock.

Its a 6 row cooler. I couldn't get the link to work to show the specs. It would be easier if I could remove the old one and install new.

Anyone know the ratings for the stock tranny coolers?

There are lots of different "stock" coolers. That's half the confusion.

This is the stock cooler on my truck. I've never bothered to count the rows because it keeps my trans plenty cool (as measured with a gauge) when towing my heavy boat.

Hell I'll give you my stock 16 row trans cooler (same size as the one frog posted above), I replaced mine with a factory 26 row cooler to avoid over heating with my tq converter. A 6 row cooler is going to suck as far as temps go ( unless its the large billet aluminum one in the HD trucks now). Did you have a trans cooler in there before? What size was it? Do you have a trans temp gauge?

Here's my 26 row stock tranny cooler.
I guess we 03's have crappy PCM's but good cooling lol.
To the OP.......Yep your tranny needs to get up to temp, just so the OD can kick in.
I figure you need the performance of the 26 row cooler max, as this is what Dodge fits.

Hey Frog....looking at your pic........where's your PS cooler?

The new one I bought has a 1/2 inch in and a 1/2 inch out.
