even the 03 5.9's had the 46re. you can remove most of the tm on the 5.9 with the 46re. I believe. Your probably better off building the tranny first cause the 46re just plain sucks. I plan to change my converter, shift kit and other parts eventually. I can't wait to see the difference. Our trucks have *****, just the tranny holding it back I think.

as far as im aware from reading throughout the 2nd gen forums and around the web, It does. hmm, back the research.........

EDIT: I'm definitely seeing that our trucks have it, through some reading and searches. Also ever notice with the pedal if you press it to right before wot, it seems to lift off the line better? I've always noticed that with mine.

EDIT 2: The 46re doesn't have torque management but the pcm still retards the timing in order to control it during WOT.

WIDE OPEN THROTTLE MODE
This is an Open Loop mode. During wide open
throttle operation, the PCM receives the following
inputs.
² Battery voltage
² Crankshaft position sensor
² Engine coolant temperature sensor
² Intake manifold air temperature sensor
² Manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor
² Throttle position sensor (TPS)
² Camshaft position sensor signal
During wide open throttle conditions, the following
occurs:
² Voltage is applied to the fuel injectors with the
ASD relay via the PCM. The PCM will then control
the injection sequence and injector pulse width by
turning the ground circuit to each individual injector
on and off. The PCM ignores the oxygen sensor input
signal and provides a predetermined amount of additional
fuel. This is done by adjusting injector pulse
width.
² The PCM adjusts ignition timing by turning the
ground path to the coil(s) on and off.

Tuning with a SCT, seems to change the adjustments the PCM makes to the timing I believe. But anyways, im kind of piecing information together here from different sources.

Someone wanna jump in if im right? lol

If you are looking for the best mileage gain, IMO it is the E-fan!! I am running the superchips tuner a Volant CAI, Cherry Bomb Vortex, E-fan and 180 t-stat. I have 35x12.5 gas sucking mud tires, and 3:92 gears. I am averaging 13 on the highway 10 to 11 in stop and go..........and this is the same mileage I got bone stock! now I have better performance bigger tires a little lift and same mileage.

The superchips and e-fan are my two favorite MODS!!!

contack sean im serious, he will tell you evrey thing he does.. you get too make your own 3 tunes and he send them too you and you load it on the truck.

he says there is torque management , and people say it makes a major diffrence taking it off. people say the truck and tranny are alot better run with it off.

here is someone 2 cents off anohter forum I have it off. I like the shift firmer shifts & the shifts occuring at a higher RPM. Also I like the lockup comming in at a higher RPM & higher speed. Firmer shifts are created by reducing the time the clutches slip between shifts. This creats less heat thus extending the life of the transmision as a whole. With the shifts happening at a higher RPM the engine does not bogg down (loose RPM's) after the shift. With the lockup comming on at a higher RPM & speed the engine does not bog down (loose RPM's) as it does with the torque mamagement on.

He was originally asking for a mileage improvement, and everything you are describing is performance! I know some times they go hand in hand, BUT a single MOD alone will not make that big of a difference. it takes a cumulative of several to make any significant improvements in mileage.

The shifting thing with our transmissions can also be adjusted via throttle valve cable... You can extend and stiffen the shifts by moving the plunger towards the transmission.

I've always had so much trouble with that damn cable though. Tranny starts jumpin out of gears and stuff then. Since playing with the tv cable I've always had a slight jump out of 3rd in light acceleration, it hops back down to 2nd and right back shortly later. Still can't get it back right wish I would have never touched it or at least marked it originally lol.
