Default diff help!

hey guys i got a question, can all year models of the 3rd gen ram diff fit on any 3rd gen, i have an 05 and recenlty my grandpa took my truck to the repair shop since i cant drive and them to find out why it makes an airplane sound coming from the rear, the mechanic was stupid he first said it was the bearings but we changed them so they're brand new, but he found that it was the diff.
so my question is would any 3rd gen diff fit on my 05 or do i have to stick with an 05?
and also if i get a new diff does it have to be that open diff where one tire spins, cuz thats whats in my truck or can the factory lsd fit in there too?

thanks

you may have a lsd in it already and mine has the same sound i am getting these...http://moesperformance.com/index.php...oducts_id=1134 and i am paying a local guy to do it....250 install if i was you i would follow suite and go this route....find a reputable guy that specializes in rearends to do it though some who can warrantee there work....granted they wont warrantee the gears...but the manufacturer should....

X2^^ This is un chartered waters for me. I would fathom a guess that o3 and o4 would fit nicely. Your thinking junkyard? These rearends aren't the best in the world new. I would replace with after market and that way your chances of opening her up other than fluid changes reduce drastically. You get what you pay for. Good luck.

the rearend isnt the problem. its the stock LSD. swap that out, and the rear is plenty bullet proof.

Yeah I was thinking junkyard, the shop quoted for brand new $2000+ and my grandpa found a refurbished one for pretty cheap. He is saying that he'll fix it and I believe that he will since he's a milwright and familiar doing this work on his machines.
It just got me thinking if he found one that has the lsd and maybe bigger gears since I currently have the 3.55 which would make me more happier haha

more than likely he was somewhat correct. most people automatically assume its wheel bearings however it sounds like you need new carrier bearings. oce your carrier bearings go bad your preload on your carrier is affected causing all sorts of whines and strange noises that obviously get more noticeable at higher rpms. being that you have a 2wd you could replace your pinion bearings, carrier bearings, replace your lsd clutches(if you have tracloc), and put some 4.10 or 4.56 gears in for around 700 for parts, and then do it yourself if you are handy or know someone who can help you out.
