Default Cruise control vacuum pump issue

I was doing some searching for an answer to the issue below and stumbled across this site. Hopefully someone can steer me in the right direction.

A vacuum pump which I believe is for the cruise control continuously runs. I used to hear it only for a few seconds when the key was turned on, and then it would shut off. Now it runs continuously and is very loud. The pump is mounted on the inside of the right fender area – a hose then runs out of the bottom of the pump, up along the dash area, tees off, one hose going into dash and the other going to what I believe is the cruise control unit which is mounted on the front left side of the engine. Cruise works fine. Truck runs fine. I did check for codes and it showed P0483 which may be unrelated.

I just returned from the local Dodge dealership but the lead service person was so unhelpful that I did not feel comfortable leaving my rig with them. He could not (or would not) even tell me if this pump is for the cruise control system.

I would really appreciate any thoughts on this issue.

TIA
