A/C question
Ok, maybe i'm going crazy or maybe its just this hot weather we're having. But it seems like my A/C doesnt blow as cold as it used to. When i'm idling its not that cold but i can rev it up and hold the rpms at around 1500 and it starts getting cool. It cools great when i'm driving. What is the normal maintenance on the A/C? . I dont think i have ever had it serviced since i bought it new in 06. any help will be great.
its mainly the weather, the refridgerant 134 is only designed to lower the temperature in a vehicle by 20 degrees give or take a few,,,,so if there is a heat index of 105 out you can really only expect the truck to cool to about 75 to 80 degrees,
What kind of temperatures are you having? The A/C high side pressure should be between 150 and 250 at 70 degrees, 200 and 300 psi at 80 degrees, 250 to 350 at 90 degrees, and 290 to 390 at 100 degrees. If you find you have all the pressures good and it still can't get cold air you can take it to a dealer or other hvac shop and have the refrigerant removed to check for high moisture or refrigerant oil in the system, as this can cause abnormal operation. If everything is normal and you need more cold then you could put a shutoff valve on your heater core coolant input line.
Opps wrong spot, sorry.

Im about to drop a can in mine also. I have a meat probe thermometer in my vent and it used to get down to 40*. This year I notice its not as cold either and my thermometer reads anywhere from 50-60*
The big can at Walmart with the gauge is about $20
