RF, I know you are strongly opinionated buddy so take it easy one me. I know everyone says use the HOAT and thats cool. But before I came here and knew half of what I do know, many years ago I flushed my system and put regular Prestone in it. Ive flushed a few more times since then and always used the same Prestone and never any issues. I have no cooling issues and Ive had my engine broken down several times and never seen any issues.
So I am just not convinced HOAT is mandated rather than preferred by the manufacture.

Well, you're absolutely right. HOAT is preferred rather than mandated. The reason they suggest HOAT is that it is good for 100k miles before it needs replaced. Once you think of it that way, it's kind of a no brainer.
*FYI: There is no malice in my strongly worded opinions. That's just how I sound....

Here's a great article on HOAT, it's wordy but take the time to read the whole thing.

To answer the OP's question, yes distilled water is fine for a temp fix if you have some on hand. Just be sure that sooner or later you get it back to a 50/50 ratio. I recommend getting an antifreeze tester at the auto parts store. Its a little tube with 5 different colored ***** in it that will tell you how hot/cold the antifreeze has protection for. The testers are like $5. Everyone should have one.
And when you do get antifreeze, get HOAT if they have it, if not its really no big deal
