Drop in filter opinion
I have a question on which drop in you think is better. I have an Airaid that came with the tube i installed, and a k&n that, once cleaned, could go in instead. So which do you think breaths better, which will i get more out of. Thanks in advance.
Is the Airaid an oil filter or just paper?
Honestly, i don't know if my K&N has done as much good as it has done bad, but all I can say is that my oil got freakin dirty as hell with my K&N. I'm actually debating on taking it out. I had 3700miles on my last oil change and it was super black. I have only 8700miles on my truck and the oil has been changed at 830miles, 2500miles, 5000miles. So that's 3 times since 8700 miles and it was black. Black means dirt and I have never had a vehcile that looked as bad as that with only 3700 miles on the oil. My wife puts 5-6000miles on each oil change and her oil wasn't half as black as it was once I put in a K&N filter in her car. Both her K&N and mine were brand new and were oiled up when installed.
I couldn't find my stock paper filter, but I think I may put it back in for just this oil change and see if things don't improve?

Even so. I think this is like comparing Amsoil to RP. Both good oils just which one makes you sleep better. I think the difference between the two is negligible at best for performance aspects. Filtering aspects...I don't know. If I had to make a suggestion based on my prior history with K&N..I'd go with Airaid. if you don't want the airaid I will buy it from you...lol
I have an Airaid drop in in the truck and the oil looks decent at oil changes. When I first switched from conventional to synthetic the first oil change seemed pretty dark. I have a 300c with a k&N drop in, synthetic oil since 500miles and the oil looks pretty good each oil change, 3000-4000miles. The 300c sees pretty light use though compared to the truck. In comparing the 2 though I would say the performance difference would be nearly the same.
