To Bad Horton and I aren't out there. We would be all about helping you rebuild it! Keep us in the loop on what you end up figuring out. You might be better off rebuilding the one from the junk yard and doing what ever you want to in the process...still should be cheaper than the stealer ship. Your buddy had an engine lift didn't he?

I asked about just replacing the pistons, they are working a quote. If they tear down the motor to see exactly all that's wrong, it'll be $1500. Right now for diagnostic, its $240. I have a few good friends with extensive automotive experience and I'm no slouch. Thinking about buying some Keith Black pistons, taking my truck home and doing this with me and my buddies.
Called Greenleaf auto recyclers. Used 5.7L w/ 82k on the clock, $1800. Remanufactured motor, $5200. Keith Black pistons, $300.
What do you guys think? Anyone else had this problem? Oh, and don't ask about warranty...4k past.
Does your base have a Auto Hobby Shop? I would take the truck there and tear the engine down to see if it is rebuildable or not. Usually the Manager of the Shop has experience and perhaps he can provide some guidance as you decide what to do.

Not with his mods and a performance download plus just plain out of warranty.Dodge will only talk $ If the cylinder is not harmed measure a piston for it and replace the one or all.Lots of measuring will be the key.Its gotta fit perfect for the end result to work well.

Ok well ive got an 04 and like you already know, for that price i would be looking at a completely new engine with some upgrades. Hell you can get a 392 for that price. If you got some friends who can help i would be pulling and replacing the engine myself.

And IF it were ME, I would rebuild that engine myself unless the damage internally is too great.
