Default Mystery of the week

About a month ago I started up my truck and left work on a Saturday afternoon and as I started to go up a hill from a stop the transmission started slipping in first gear and would barely move. I pulled into a parking lot to find out I was low on trans fluid. The check engine light was on also so I keyed the egnition and came up with the error code p0700 which is a transmission code. I dropped it off at dealer and of course it was the weekend and they couldn't look at it till monday. I received a call from dealer stating there was nothing wrong with transmission and no code came up and that they may have not filled up the fluid all the way when I got my trans serviced 6,000 miles prior. All was well for a month until I took a trip to PA over this past weekend and after 90 mile and getting off an exit on the highway the trans started slipping again and check engine light was on again with the same code. After sitting for awhile at my brothers house and trying to find a dealer to bring it to I started it up and drove it to dealer and trans didn't slip all the way there but check engine light was on. Just to find out there was nothing they could do because they were already were working on two other transmissions and they were closed on Saturday. I did ask alot of questions and learned that there probably was a problem with it and that I should bring it back to my dealer and explain what they told me. I figured if there was a problem and it broke on the 90 mile trip back it was warrantied and I would deal with it if it happened. Sunday after the truck sat for 2 days I started my trek home with not a problem and the check engine light went off by itself while I was gone. I dropped it off at the dealer on Monday and got a call hoping that they would find a problem with a stored code to tell them what the problem is only to find out that I was a quart and a half low and I am leaking or losing trans fluid somewhere. Three days later and the dealer can't figure out where the fluid is being lost or where it is going. They know it is leaking because they filled it up a month ago but they are all stumped. Once again it will be ther another day and I will be picking it up tomorrow even if they don't figure it out and will bring it to a Dodge Dealer to see if they can figure it out, it is at a Chrysler Dealer now. Anyone ever heard of the disappearing Trans fluid. I will keep you posted. Sorry so long

you should tell the dealer to look in the radiator- sometimes the radiator trans cooling line inside the radiator will crack and leak. I work in a suzuki dealer and have repair couple of cars with similar problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the transfer would you smell it burning. They did not find anything today and I picked it up. They want me to come back everyother week so they can check fluid and document it in case it becomes a warranty issue seeing I have 7,000 left on warranty. They told me to add no fluid. I will keep you up to date.

nope, no odor, but you would scorch the bearings causeing it to lock up.

if they pull the fill plug on the transfer adn tranny fluid pours out either one of two things have happened. 1, the fluid lines that run to the transfer from the transmission to the tranny cooler to cool it cracked letting fluid to slowly drain in. or the rear output seal is torn causeing fluid to seap in that way.

my main concern would be to check the fluid in the transfer and see whats going on in there as well.

Now is the test for Chrysler. I went to Chrysler because I have been dealing with them since I bought the truck. But on Tuesday I will be hopefully finding out if they are pulling my leg. It just so happens that my fiances family owns a tranmission shop (rebuilding and supplying shops in Northern NJ and NYC). On Tuesday they will be taking it up on the lift to see what they find and they will be checking the transfer. I hope I will be visiting Chrysler next week with the answer and hope they are not really trying to screw me. Keep you posted
