lift options please help!
I am currnetly have a 2007 ram 4x4 quad cab with the 4.7. that i want to lift enough to clear 37" tires. here are my questions.
1. will the IFS hold up to tires that big? the lift system i want to run is the fabtec 6" with dirt logix shocks and 3" of body lift. if it will what are my options for regearing the front end? the gear set that i want to run is 4.56 with e-locker front and rear and if it wont is there any way to beef up IFS?
2. The dodge 1500 mega cab has a solid front axel how hard would it be to put one in my ram if the IFS is no good?
3. is 4.56 going to be enough to not tax me engine and totaly kill performance. I am going to be adding a cam, new fuel injectors, headers and exhaust to get more power but will it be enough to turn the big tires?

Lots of opinions on this. Most will probably say 35's are the biggest you should go with IFS.
I have a different opinion. are 37's too big? No. Will it cause extra wear and tear on the front end? Yes ... but so will every size larger than stock. The bigger the tire, the more wear is created. It all depends on what you use your truck for. I will say that the amount of wear gets increasingly more for every inch you go bigger. Meaning 37's cause a lot more wear over 35's than 35's do over 33's. Does that make sense?
The Fabtech is only a true 4" lift, so with the body lift you'll clear 37's no problem. 4.56 is a good choice, and the best you can do. Unless you do a ridiculous amount of off roading, theres really no point in putting a locker up front. Save your mod money and just do an LSD in the rear (not a locker unless you're offroad more than the street)
It would take a LOT of fabrication to do a megacab front end swap, so I wouldnt even consider it an option. 4.56 will do your engine just fine.

Thanks for the reply. good info for the IFS system but there is no way to beef it up? i was thinking lockers because I run in mud/snow alot in the winter and dunes/sand in summer. on an aside note what do you do for the af?
I'm of the "37s are too big for an IFS truck" camp. Seen a few fail, as a matter of fact I've winched two out of the woods while hunting to where the flatbed could get to them.
It's not just the 37's per say, it's the 37s combined with what you have to do to the front end to fit them. The weight and rolling resistance isn't very kind, but the angle placed on the CV shafts to clear 37s weakens them considerably.
If you really gotta have 37s, then I think the best scenario would be a milder suspension lift, like a 4", combined with a 3" body lift. 4" suspension lifts as a rule do not increase the CV angle as much as 6".
Does everyone who runs 37s on an IFS truck have issues? No, but it dramatically increases the possibility and as AF says, it will accelerate the wear of most front end components.
As far as a "locker", nobody makes one for the front of our IFS trucks, nor a simple LSD for that matter (at least none that I'm aware of).
Although they are better than they were just 10 years ago, rear lockers are great for off-road traction, but just aren't very streetable. A selectable locker in the rear like an e-locker or an air based unit is a great solution, although an expensive one...

Sounds like you should have started with the "Power Wagon".
By the way, I've owned many lifted trucks over the years, but I have never been happier with the new lift kit from KORE Racing that I just put on my 2006 Mega Cab 3500 4X. I've tried all the rest, this is the best. Who else makes a kit that is strong enough to jump a Mega? Nobody!

yea i definately should have starded at the power wagon....budget at the time tho didnt support it now i am thinking about just trading strawberry in on a mega cab cummins.

I agree with other posts, 37's are to heavy for the IFS and for that 4.7. I have 35's on mine with the HEMI and at lower highway speeds and on offroad hills you can feel them a little bit.........But if I could do a bodylift and clear 37's I would just because its bad ***
Well the deployment is winding down, So i think i am going to go with the 6" fabtech 1" body and some 35" toyo open county mts along with the 4.56 gears and either a lsd or e locker... I i am also planning on getting a cam, exhaust and intake. not too bad for a daily driver. thanks for the responses
