Default How often do I change the oil??

Alright, so I'm in the military and getting ready to leave for a year. I have a 08 1500 5.7 with 28xxx and use mobil 1 5-20. My wife will be driving it once a week to keep everything in check and at the most should put about 500 miles in every 3 months. So here's my question. How often should the oil be changed??
Thanx

I stick to every 6 months or 5,000 miles with full synthetic. Usually the 6 months comes first

I just changed my oil. Been 9 months and 3800 miles since the last one. The biggest thing is moisture, but if she's driving it every so often then you'd be fine to even change it when you get back.
Yeah, normal would be 6k or every 6months but that's a bit much IMO if your only driving 1kmi every 6 months. It's not like the oil goes bad or breaks itself down.

I changed my mustang oil once a year. Every spring it would get an oil change and that oil was spotless! that car seen about 1kmi each summer.

I've always had an issue using the "time" part of the interval. Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't see the stuff aging appreciably just sitting there. Even though it takes about eight months to put 4K on it, I'm sticking with a 4K-5K interval.

Make sure your wife drives it for an hour on the freeway to get the moisture heated up and steamed away.
