e fan temp

Default e fan temp

i just upgraded from a 05 dakota to and 05 ram with the hemi and want to do an e fan. my question is when i set up the temp controler can i use one that automaticaly switches on at 180 and off at 170 or do i need to get an adjustable one.

Most guys use an adjustable one but what temp stat are you running?

i just got it so i assume it has the stock thermostat

Then you cold set it to come on around 200* or so. Anything sooner and all you are cooling is the water is the rad. Thats doesnt sound bad but if the stat is closed then that water is not circulating. Next step would be to get a 180* stat and lower the controller setting to around 180*

Weedahoe, I was always under the assumption that these newer motors needed to run hotter for emmissions issues, will putting a 180* in mess up and stock ecm workings? what will I benefit from it? I can see maybe doing it w/ an aftermarket controller.

my logic may be flawed but my thinkings are that a cooler running engine means less wear, less expansion, thicker oil, less detonation, denser air and fuel means more power, ect.

However, all of these when going from a 200* stat to a 180 are slight at best but every bit does help.

so on stock stat have it on at 200 and off at 190 185?
