Default Rearend Should I remove the clips?

When I first got the truck, bought it used went to the dealer had them check out everything. They fixed the rear end had the busted clips.

Anyways, I've never did anything with a differential before.

Should I attempt at opening the differential removing the clips and putting in Royal Purple while at it.

I think 75W-140 is what I want? also how much will it take?

Oh and will I have to redo the gasket? I read that if the cover is replaced back on within 5 minutes you will not re have to do the gasket. Also how do you fill and drain it anyways? Basically clueless.

Thanks in advance

Yep, 75w-140. I used Mobil 1 and the friction modifier.

Just what did the dealer "fix"? I don't know for sure, but I don't think new clips can be installed, nor are they necessary. The clips are there to make the clutch packs easier to install.

Just remove the bottom curve of bolts to loosen the pan, then loosen the others. You may have to pry on it a bit. Let it drain into the catch pan for a minute or so, then remove the rest of the bolts. Let it continue to drain while you scrape off any RTV residue and clean the pan. Carefully run a bead of RTV around the bolt holes and put the pan back on. It doesn't take much RTV, just make sure you go around the bolt holes and outside the line of holes. Tighten the bolts back on in criss-cross pattern. I believe the manual says 25 ft/lbs on the bolts, but snug plus a quarter-turn should do. Fill it through the rubber plug on the pan. Yours will only need a bit less than three quarts of fluid and 4 oz. of modifier. All this assumes the capacities of the '02 are the same as the '03.

It'll take longer than five minutes for the fluid to drain. Sometimes there is no gasket, just a bead of RTV. I don't remember if my PML pan included a gasket. I think it did. I ran a bead of RTV anyway. I wiped out more fluid and then used brake cleaner to further clean it.

I looked at my clips - all were intact. I considered removing them but didn't want to get partway through and not be able to finish. The only residue was the expected silvery stuff in the bottom. Cleaned it out real good, prepped the PML and put it on. Four quarts of fluid and 7 oz. of friction modifier.

thanks for the info, you answered everything. Only thing is I plan to use royal purple so I don't think I will need to add any friction modifier as it already has it. What the dealer fixed was a clip that dropped and broke 2 of the teeth off.
