Default Taillight Problem (?)

Hello, you're 3rd gen forums have been infiltrated by 2nd gen posters....jk

My dad has a 02 1500 Sport and is having problems with the taillights and/or lampout switch in the dash.
What is happening is when the engine is running and you step on the brake, the lampout light comes on in the gauge cluster and will just flicker on the off while sounding off its annoying-*** alarms.
We have already checked all the bulbs the truck, all work. I have also checked the fuse box and brakelight actuator thingy.
The only thing i haven't done is pull the tailights because I can't get them out of the truck; they just don't pull out. I would rather not have my dad yelling at me for breaking his tailights even more.

Also, I just thought of this, the engine is also surging at idle, doesn't matter whether or not the A/C is on or off. It did this a few months ago, he had the battery replaced, the trans and rearend were worked on, and there was some emissions thing having to do with the gas tank replaced.

Any advice would be nice.

Thanks.

he needs a new circuit board for his brake lights, each one has them, they are like 15.00 at advance auto, and i think you can remove the lights with a torx driver

also check the vac lines for a leak, may be causing the surging

Thanks.

I have gotten the screws out, just not the taillights. It seems as if they have been welded in with dirt....

Where would the vacuum lines be located? What would they sound like? (if anything?)
