my friends girlfriend has an o5 ram shorty. its leveled and has a 3" body lift with 35" tires and 20" rims. My Question is could she fit a 38" tire without anymore lift? im no dodge guy haha but i figured this is the places to ask the question any help is greatly appreciated. Oh and what is the biggest tire i can fit? the new tires are going to be on a 17" rim and the truck never sees the dirt

From reading other posts on the forum, no way are you going to fit 38's with no extra lift. I'm not all knowing but I think the last guy that asked that question was told the biggest would be 35's. Your best bet would be do a search of the forums because I think there is a lot of people that have asked the same question. Good luck

Yeah, leveled with a 3" BL, no way 38s will fit.

along with if you decide to go 35s i would almost consider re-gearing as well.
if you want 38's start thinking of a suspension lift in the near future

I have a friend with a 02 qc 4x4, its leveled and has the 3in body lift, he is running 37" bfg mud terrains on the factory 17" rim, they rub just a bit on a hard turn, but if he had proper backspacing he would be fine.

He's already got 35's and is wanting to move up to 38's.

IMO, 35's look perfect with a level and a 3" BL, anymore tire and it'll look way too crowded especially adding 3" in there. 38 is a BIG tire. You would need 1.5" of additional clearance on the outiside of the tire.
I know your girl wants to say she's running 38's, but no way it'll look as good as 35's or drive as good either. If you have 3:55's, it'll be like dropping down to a ~3:02 ratio. That means worse gas mileage plus even worse because the heavier tire.

If you look at all the suspension lifts, even some of the 6" suspension lifts only reccomend max of 37", others say 35".
Also, that big of tire is asking ALOT from the crapy rack & pinion, BJ's and tierods in these trucks even on a pavement queen.
Minimum backspacing would be 4.5" and probably even a 4.25" or 4" BS with a small lift like you have and that large of a tire.
