Not if you go the Plasti-Dip route, just clean 'em first and maybe a pre-spray with a little adhesion promoter...

if you have a spray gun, tractor supply has some single stage paint (paint and clear) for under $20. i did my nerf bars with it a few months ago and they are holding up perfectly. i think i sanded with 400 then primerd then paint

I took mine to line-x and had them spray them. They look great IMO and will hold up a lot better than paint etc..just another idea

I sprayed mine. Just sanded them down real good with the sander, prepped, primed and painted.
