Things will only change when due to this clip failure when someone loses their life????
I dunno what the hell it is with MAJOR design flaws, but NOBODY fixes them. Ford has the "exploding spark plugs" that come out with so much force they can pierce the hood that's been going on since the Triton engines were introduced, the head failure issues in the diesels, Dodge with the "C-Clips" and it took what, 8 years or so to address the cracking and caving in dash issues?!

With the disappearance of "family type" businesses, we lost any and all workman pride...

After spending over 8 years on various dakota forums it makes me wonder.... why does the same rear end fail so much in the ram, and not the dakota? Sure every once and a while someone would break their 9.25... usually someone with an R/T who abused it alot or had alot more power than a stock 360. but it sounds like the daks didnt have near as many problems as the ram owners.

The AAM 9.25" rear end is actually a very strong axle and as much as I like Dana, I honestly think that at the same diameter, the AAMs might even be stronger.

The problem is NOT the axle, but the factory LSD. The clips that hold it in place invariably fail at some point which can be as low as 30k miles and they may hold out till close to 100k miles, but at some point they WILL fail.

The clips come out and get into the ring and pinion where they start a chain of events that if left unchecked can destroy the entire carrier.

IMO, the stock Chrysler LSD is a **** poor performer, clips not withstanding, anyway. It really needs driver interaction (slight brake application or slight e-brake) just to engage most of the time. Most drivers don't realize this so they are just as well off with an open carrier in the first place. I always recommend guys have them yanked out and replaced with an Auburn or DTT unit that actually works without conscious interaction from the driver anyway...

Default Question??????

I have owned a 2003 Ram 1500 4x4 for about 3 years. Although I haven't had any noticeable problems with the rear-end, after reading a few months back about all the "C" clip issues I decided to open it up and replace the fluid. I did find metal pieces that I'm sure where the clip in the bottom at the magnet. I cleaned that out and replace it with new syn fluid. I have approximately 6K miles since the change. What I do notice now is that when making a right turn from a stop I can feel the right rear tire grabbing like it is locked in posi mode, if that makes any sense. I don't remember it happening before the fluid change but it could also be that I am more conscious of it now and just notice things more. Any comments on this? Could this be a result of the clutch packs grabbing as a result of the clip(s) breaking off?

Just a question.. Is this applicable to all Rear Ends with a Factory Posi in the 1500's or is it just Certain Axles( 9.25 or 10.5) with the Posi?

Have you put the correct amount of friction modifier in with the fluid change?
