upgrading suspension
my dad asked me the question of how he can easily and simi cheaply upgrade his 1500 ram to a 2500 and I couldn't answer his question 100% so that's why I ask you guys, the experts!
I told him air bags for the rear. he isn't wanting massive payload capacity but rather be able to lug around a camper in the bed.

nothing is going to let you carry more weight than the truck is recommended for. aftermarket stuff will simply let you carry your recommended load more easily. sure you can go over that GVWR, but get in a wreck, and see what the insurance has to say about it, no thanks.
as for stuff that will help, gears, airbags, trailer brakes and controller, tuner, and pretty much anything that will get you more HP/TQ. again though, those things will not allow you to safely overload the max ratings of the truck.

Yep, what he said!!!
The 1500 and 2500 don't share the same frames, so there is no way to pull it off.
Bag it and put the camper on it as long as the weight doesn't exceed manufacturers specs...

3. Upgrade complete
GM did some kind of weirdo thing where they had a 1500 that had 2500 running gear (they called it a 1500HD). Besides 8 lug axles, I don't know what else they did to it.
Dodge did it too... the 1500 mega cab
Not exactly, they did that because the 2500 frame was needed to carry that heavy long *** body, not for towing/cargo ability. GM didn't put a longer body for it. Besides, I've seen mega-cabs that were labeled both 1500 AND 2500.
