Cool A/C is not cold on passenger side vents

03 Dodge Ram - new compressor & Condensor Fan

Symptoms - A/C gets cold on driver vents, just barely cool on passenger vents.

Work done so far
  • Replaced compressor (cluth blew up last summer)
  • Replaced Condensor Fan
  • System will pull a vacuum and hold pressure, no leaks
  • Charged system with 2.5 cans R-134a (approx 28oz)
  • I also spent 20 hours removing/re-installing dash to test actuator doors, and all seem to be working correctly.
I am at a loss for what to test next. Is it possible that the evaporator is blocked on one side preventing the passenger side vents from getting cold? Pressure on A/C gauge shows 38 degrees, is that enough when its 100 degrees outside? (I don't want to overfill with freon and damage something)
PLEASE HELP! Its friggin hot!!!

Fill free to post any known causes of why the passenger side vents will not blow cold.

just got my 05 out of the shop for the exact same thing. I was told they had to replace the "blend door" and that it is a VERY common dodge ram problem.

Given everything you've done I'm almost certain its the blend door. 38 is sufficient for 100 degrees, not quite as high as it should be for that temp. but it will work, just takes a little bit for the passenger side to catch up to the drivers side.

Default A/C is not cold on passenger side vents

I have the same problem. I have already replaced mode 1 flaps because of a directional problem between, floor, vent and defrost. Now I have the problem of A/c cold on drivers side and warm on passengers side. Also the when I have the heater on it is burning hot on the passenger side and luke warm on the drivers side.

I will be pulling out the assembly next week and I will try and post pictures of the problem.

Blend door, but dont be an idiot and break apart the box like the video on the website posted. Take the extra hour and pull the dash off.

I will be pulling out the dash. I've had it out before and it is pretty easy. I just hope the box is just as easy.

Its not bad. You have to remove the PCM off the firewall to get to the bolts. The AC fittings are a pain to pull apart. You will need the AC recovered before you do it. Once you open your system to the air you'll need a new drier and 2 ounces of pag oil 40 weight I think.
