Default 2008 fog light blues

Hello,

I jsu tpurchased a pre-owned 2008 Dodgr Ram 1500 model code DR6L41. I requested to have fog lights installed and the dealer mentioned that they would not instal it because they have had wiring problems with it in past.

My question rermains whether there is an issue with installing fog lights and how difficult is it to go through the process, any tips will be helpful. With the vast experience of all, would this be a DIY project or have the specialists do it?

Thanks,
shaffin.

Well from what i understand they have to be programmed to work via the Starscan tool. But you can add your own and wire them to a switch if you want

they sell the kit without the headlamp switch. its just a fog light switch with a relay and the fog lights.
or you can choose to buy a headlamp switch with the fog light option and have it repgrogrammed to let it know it has fog lamps.

whichever way you choose its a fairly simple install.
but you will have to have the dealer program your fog lights if you go with the headlamp switch

Hadn't heard of any "wiring" problems involving the fog lights. Some trucks w/o the fogs come through with the feature enabled in the PCM and some come through with it disabled and needs to be enabled via a StarScan tool at the dealership.

I wonder if the genius' at your dealership realize this?

If you want to do this yourself, pick up a set of OEM lights and run them yourself with a switch as others have mentioned.

Lights are available for about $50 a piece online and are side dependent.

Then it's just a matter of running the wiring and utilizing a relay.
The wiring would be no different than running any other type of auxiliary lighting.

Sample diagram:

If your truck happens to have the "HOMELINK" feature, you can even purchase an inexpensive ($15) WIRELESS relay (they come with two key fobs) and program your unused buttons to turn your lights off and on so you wouldn't even need to run a switch into the cab (plus you can operate the lights with the fobs from outside your vehicle). I did this on my Jeep Grand Cherokee for a set of off-road lights and it worked out quite well...

Thanks guys! I was ale to get the fog kit from my dealer for $189 that includes the fogs, wiring and switch.

From what I understand installing the fogs is pretty easy but what about the switch? Instructions would help.

Thanks again guys, this is the best forum!

Shaffin.
