Offroad light help
Hey guys and gals I have an 07 1500 w/camper shell and rack basket on top of it I am wondering if I can wire the new 700ff hella's through the cargo/brake light as long as I go through the relay first then into the existing circuitry right? Or can I not ? Thanks
Even though you are running a relay for the lights, you are still pulling the power thru the cargo/brake light. The Hellas may only be 55 watts each (about a 9.2 amp draw for the two), but I wouldn't trust it. Bad things can happen when you pull more power thru a wire that is not heavy enough.
The wiring for the brake light and fusing is of the correct diameter and capacity for what it is designed to run.
Use your relay, but run a wire for power directly from the battery or from the screw where the large battery cable goes into the fuse box. You can run it thru the e-brake hole, up the drivers side pillar and still get it to the 3rd brake light area for your added lights.
And because the distance from the power source to where you are putting the lights is a bit longer than if you were mounting them behind or on the grill, I'd run a bit heavier wire anyway...
